Situated about 30 km from Annemasse and Geneva, in the western part of Haute-Savoie, Le Vuache rises to 1105 metres. Though it's smaller than Le Salève and Les Voirons, it has its own particular charms and never fails to attract hikers, tourists and others.
WALKING AROUND LE VUACHE
With over 100 kms of marked hiking trails, Le Vuache is a dream destination for hikers and ramblers. It boasts numerous walking paths for all levels.
Le Vuache is therefore great both for families out on a peaceful excursion and for experienced hikers who want to really put their endurance to the test.
BIRDLIFE IN LE VUACHE
Aside from its hiking routes, Le Vuache also has wonderful birdlife and holds high ornithological importance. It's listed as an Important Bird Conservation Area (ZICO), RA 14 "Haute chaîne du Jura : défilé de l’Écluse, Étournel et Mont Vuache".
So, as you walk along in Le Vuache, look up! You may well see absolutely remarkable birds: a Peregrine Falcon perhaps, or a Golden Eagle , maybe even an Eagle Owl.
While there are many birds of prey here, you'll also spot more common birds like the hazel grouse, of gallinaceous species.
Le Vuache is heaven for ornithologists and birdwatchers, who flock here to watch and study its magnificent birdlife.
THE BOUNTEOUS FLORA OF LE VUACHE
Le Vuache is a sanctuary not just for birds but also for flora of great diversity and importance. There's no denying that this mountain is a botanical treasure-chest: it harbours no fewer than 763 different species.
As you walk along the paths of Le Vuache, you'll see magnificent flowers, for example daffodils, spring snowflakes or Erythronium dens-canis, which are actually the emblem of Le Vuache.
